People who suffer a spinal cord injury
(SCI) can face a bleak future. Insurance coverage of expenses
ends before the individual learns to exist in a wheelchair,
let alone try and recover further and continue in therapy.
| |
However, due to the
way the spinal cord and the nervous system recovers,
there is sometimes further recovery that takes
years but goes unnoticed. Part of this is due
to the fact that the drugs most SCI victims are
prescribed suppress the signs of nerves healing
to where you could not tell if you were healing
while on them. A second major reason further recovery
is not noticed is because of the lack of exercise
forced on those who are paralyzed. Imagine if
you had no nerve damage but sat in a chair for
2 years then tried to get up. No one would be
able to stand with out rehabbing the muscles that
wasted away over those 2 years.
One of the leading signs of recovery is muscle
spasms. Muscle spasms can be the beginnings of
the return of muscle control lost from severe
injury. If spasms are properly diagnosed, additional
recovery, even the ability to walk again, is possible.
Project Walk is an internationally recognized
center that develops these spasms. All people
roll into Project Walk but many Walk out! |
Conventional therapy covered by insurance does not
cover Project Walk. These expenses are forced to be
paid out of pocket by the SCI victim, who must generate
sufficient income to live and to pay for therapy all
while coping with the debt and loss caused by their
injury.
After hearing about the success produced by Project
Walk, Chris’s friends decided he should be able
to continue therapy. They formed the “HelpChrisWalk”
organization to allow supporters to partner in his efforts
at Project Walk and at the same time receive tax-deductible
contributions. For more information to understand how
